The Blue-Green Climate City

- Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
- Challenge Addressed: Managing the impacts of intense rainfall, which threatens the water quality of the city’s harbour and lakes due to Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). At the same time, the city’s extensive network of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for flood control creates potential new pollution pathways to groundwater.

How URBANM2O will Intervene:
Enhance the existing harbour warning system by integrating real-time water quality data to better protect bathing areas.
Evaluate the performance of both new and ageing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in removing pollutants from urban runoff and CSOs.
Investigate the two-way pollution transfer between the drainage network and critical groundwater systems.
Develop the city’s DUWT to model its hybrid grey-blue-green infrastructure and improve urban climate resilience.
