The city must manage increased CSO discharges due to urban growth and climate change while also assessing the risks that new Nature-Based Solutions pose to groundwater, Switzerland’s primary drinking water source.
How URBANM2O will Intervene:
Utilise the extensive existing sensor network to precisely monitor the impact of CSOs and stormwater on the river’s health.
Assess the effectiveness of the city’s advanced wastewater treatment plant in removing regulated and emerging contaminants.
Investigate how planned infiltration-based NBS could transfer pollutants from urban runoff into critical groundwater reserves.
Develop a highly detailed DUWT, building on existing models to simulate pollution pathways and test future management strategies.
