The role of digital twins in urban water-quality management

How can cities turn monitoring data into actionable knowledge for better water-quality management?

In a new UrbanM2O interview, Francesca Zanello from Idrostudi, explains how the project is developing water-quality models designed to be integrated into open-source and adaptable digital urban water twins.

The models will be applied across URBAN M2O’s three operational case studies and will assimilate monitoring data to help identify pollution hotspots, assess risks and prioritise pollution-control actions.

By bringing together monitoring and modelling capabilities, the project aims to provide urban water managers with better tools for developing risk-based and targeted water-quality management plans. These solutions will ultimately support stronger pollution control and improved environmental quality across European cities.
