Advancing to Next Phase Following Successful Second Plenary Meeting in Barcelona

The UrbanM2O Project consortium gathered on 21-22 January 2026 in Barcelona for its second plenary meeting, marking a significant milestone in the project’s mission to revolutionise urban water quality management. Kindly hosted by the Ayuntamiento de Sant Adrià de Besòs, the meeting brought together project partners to review progress and align on technical developments.

Since its launch in June 2025, UrbanM2O has focused its first phase on a fundamental task: listening. The project has prioritized direct engagement with end-user, including cities, water utilities, and environmental regulators, to ensure that the final solutions are rooted in real-world needs and operational constraints.

Key achievements highlighted during the meeting include:

  • Challenge Mapping: Identifying current and future obstacles in urban water quality management.
  • Tool Definition: Defining the essential data and functionalities for the project’s monitoring and modelling tools.
  • Technical Benchmarking: Establishing the core requirements necessary for the development of UrbanM2O solutions.

The two-day event combined strategic discussions with practical insights. Partners shared technical updates and participated in site visits across Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs. these visits allowed the consortium to witness firsthand the relevance of the solutions currently under development and their potential impact on the local water ecosystem.

UrbanM2O extends its gratitude to the Ayuntamiento de Sant Adrià de Besòs for their hospitality and to all partners for their continued commitment to creating Water Smart urban environments.
