Advancing High-Precision Water Monitoring with New Sensor Deployment in Copenhagen
Thorsten Schmitz of NIVUS GmbH recently teamed with researchers Luca Vezzaro and Andreas Libonati Brock from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) to complete the installation of advanced Particle Concentration Measurement (PKM) systems across Copenhagen’s water infrastructure.
This technical deployment focuses on the integration of high-precision measuring systems within both combined sewer and rainwater networks. The primary objective is to record Total Suspended Solids (TSS) loads with unprecedented accuracy. By capturing this data, the project aims to address a critical knowledge gap regarding mass transport processes in urban catchment areas and their variations over time.
The significance of this installation extends beyond mere data collection. Reliable measurement data is essential for understanding complex water systems that have historically lacked detailed monitoring. These insights are fundamental for optimizing drainage systems, developing intelligent control concepts, and accurately evaluating the impact of Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). Furthermore, the data allows water managers to classify the relevance of individual discharge points, ensuring better protection for downstream ecosystems.
The success of this field installation was made possible through the close cooperation between NIVUS GmbH and the Technical University of Denmark. This partnership highlights the importance of bringing together technology providers and research institutions to solve the complex challenges of modern water governance.
